Why is my blood pressure so high?

Question:
Why is my diastolic blood pressure so high, while my systolic is normal? I watch my sodium intake...I'm active and practically stress-free. My blood tests came back normal. Also, my dr. has put me on 2 BP meds: Toprol and Micardis. It's helped my systolic but not my diastolic BP.

Answers:
Avoid caffein, spicy, fat/cholesterols, and maintain optimal weight. Try grape juice, potassium or magnesium supplements before deciding to change to other pills or extra ace blocker until you find the best fit, because there are numerous causes of BP.
diastolic is most often impacted by volume, are you retaining fluids? Perhaps you should ask your doctor about a diuretic.
Genitics. Mine is the same thing.
Hard to say. I also am on Toprol but mine is combined with another medicine for blood pressure called Hyzaar.
This has seemed to get mine under control. The best thing to do is call your doc's office and ask one of the nurses. You might also need a follow up visit to your doctor if it's been awhile. It took several visits before my doctor was pleased with the BP medications I was on and that he had hit on the right combination.
