i get enough sleep but im still always tired and i don't know why. i thought it might be the allergie medicine i took, but i started taking that at night now. how can i get more awake w/o coffee, i hate coffee it's gross.

Answers:
iron deficiency is a possibility in a menstrating girl, but you need to test beyond that for hemoglobin and hematocrit (basically red blood cell count) which need iron for effective uptake and release of oxygen to tissue. for a female 12 to 15 would be about normal for hemoglobin and about three times that for hematocrit.

another likely cause of chronic fatigue is an infection, so when blood work is done look at white blood cell count , if elevated like maybe 6,7,8, 10 it can mean an underlying infection.
and still another cause is active allergies which are causing release of histamines, or Ige's.

and even though you say you get enough sleep are you actually getting deep sleep with REM activity. sleep apnea or just poor sleep is a cause of chronic fatigue for some people but cant be evaluated unless a sleep study is done by a certified sleep clinic.

and then you are saying you take allergy meds, which you dont say what kind, but if they are alpha inhibitors, in the class of benadryl, phenolephrine, or such then you may be sensitive (even allergic) to them and having fatigue issues that are pharmacologically related in which case your doctor can easily treat that. that would be my first approach anyway as its simple and relates to your issues. also a basic RBC/WBC blood test would not be out of line.
Ask your doctor for an iron/anemia test. If you're iron deficient you won't be able to sleep, and you'll be exhausted and fatigued all the time.
If you don't sleep on a regular pattern like 10pm-6am or something like that then your body wont recognize sleep and you will feel constantly tired. This can also bring on mononucleosis and you can get very sick. Could just be not enough nutrition or exercise that can also cause fatigue.
It could possibly be your thyroid. You might want to have that tested along with the other tests that have been suggested.
Good luck sweetie!
well...first step is to have a cbc, smac, thyroid panel and mono test..if these check out ok,then have an ekg..good luck...take a multi vitamin meanwhile..
If this is an ongoing problem, you will have to talk to your doctor about it. If persistent, it could be a symptom of something more serious. It could be low iron like stated, it could be a sleeping disorder you aren't aware of, it could be something as simple as eating chocolate after 4pm as some people are very sensitive to caffeine in chocolate. It depends largely on your medical history. It could be a lot of things, but without testing, it's impossible to say for sure what it is. Only your doctor can know.
