Is it possible to "catch" bronchitis?
Question:
Answers:
I don't necessarily "catch" it, you develop it. it is caused by any number of viruses that infect the bronchi but especially so when you already have a condition of the lungs that compromises your ability to breath.
Go and see your doctor so you can be treated before it becomes something else.
Sandy :O)
Yep sure can,but i bet its because of the alergies.I always get broncitis when my alergies kick in.
No bronchitis isn't communicable. Its an infection. You can however catch the cold or flu that caused the infection and end up with the same thing. Since you have Asthma you are more susceptible to Bronchial infections then the average person.
Naaaaah,Bronchitises have been extinct forever. Sheeezh!
In this case, the answer is yes, especially if you have asthma & allergies. For regular people without asthma & allergies, no. You can get the virus/cold and if not treated for a while, it can develop into bronchitis or pneumonia. Either of these requires a really strong antibiotic which can be taken sometimes for longer than 10 days.
The other solution is if you have an allergist, go see him/her as they have other things they can give you on the premises that will open up your airways, get rid of the sputum in addition to the antibiotic you will need to get rid of the bronchitis. Go see your doctor as soon as you can.
ya..it can start as a cold then it turns into bronchitis..then it can progress into pneumonia.i had bronchitis really bad a few years back that it almost turned into pneumonia..i had a high fever and i was throwing up the mucus that had drained into my stomach!!
no it's not
The word 'bronchitis' means 'inflammation and congestion of the bronchial tubes' ... and it could have any of dozens of 'origins' ... some viral, some bacterial, and some 'ecological' (dry air is a leading cause of bronchitis).
Because your husband has had his bronchitis for a long time, I'm going to assume that the cause is 'ecological' ... and you now having 'similar' problems tells me what it 'probably is' and why you have it NOW, but didn't get it earlier.
Your 'home' is TOO DRY! There's not enough 'humidity' in the air inside your home ... and if you live in an area where the 'outside air' is humid, you didn't get 'sick' until much later than your husband because you 'go out more' than he does ... but now that he has 'acute bronchitis' are probably staying home more often to 'take care of him.'
My husband and I both are prone to 'ecological bronchitis' and since BOTH of us is 'prone to pneumonia' we know that we must 'change the ecology' so we don't get this 'illness.' What do we do to 'increase the humidity' in our apartment, especially in the bedroom ... we have two 'containers of water' in our bedroom at all times. Our 'containers' are LARGE ... we have two 'aquariums' ... one is 20 gallons, the other is 45 gallons. We own a TOTAL of 10 fish ... 7 in the smaller tank, and three in the larger (two are 'growing Comet goldfish ... measured just today at over 7" and growing fast).
You don't have to have 'aquariums' if you don't want them ... get a good 'humidifier' and start it 'running' two hours BEFORE you go to sleep at night, and let it run 'all night long' (you'll have to be SURE it's safe to be left running while you sleep, so READ THE DIRECTIONS carefully before buying), or you could have several vases of flowers (however, since you have both asthma and allergies, I think that flowers may not 'work' for you) with 'wide vases' and lots of water that you 'refill' every day. Keep OPEN WATER in ALL the rooms of your home ... even just a 'large bowl' of water on the top of a shelf that you can 'check and refill' when it needs it will work. By 'increasing the humidity' you will stop the 'irritant' of 'dry air' ... and I know that this may seem to be 'all wrong' since you and your husband both have 'wet coughs' ... but if you try it, you'll actually find that it is that 'irritant factor' that is causing your bronchial tubes to 'fill up with liquid and mucus' and you'll be 'breathing more easily' as soon as the humidity is 'up' to a 'safer level.' Our humidity is normally extremely 'low' (1-2% by volume) ... with our fish tanks, it's up to a safer 60-70% humidity ... and we don't 'feel wet' or 'sweat heavily' ... we just 'breathe more easily' and have far less 'snoring' (my husband has sleep apnea, so 'snoring' is very bad for him) ...
So, in answer to your question ... yes it is 'possible' to 'catch' bronchitis from someone, but since 'virus' or 'bacteria' are actually rare, and usually are 'accompanied by full pneumonia' I'd say it is 'safe' to say that you have gotten your 'bronchitis' from an 'ecological' factor ... and that is probably the 'low humidity' in your home.
I think so but i'm no doc....
Yes it is possible to catch bronchitis. Especially by saliva, and if your husband has it then I'm sure of it. Bronchitis will start to hurt about 2 to 3 inches below your adams apple and it will travel down the center of your chest. It feels like a DRY sensation coming from very deep, but stuff can come up anyways. Sometimes when you cough, people have explained it, as though the cough is only coming from their throat. HOWEVER, if your husband got bronchitis from smoking , then NO, you CAN NOT catch this type of bronchitis.
I hope I helped.:)
why don't you people go to your doctor for things like these?
