1st time I had cancer a dr told me I didn't after he did lab work. I found out two months later I had stg 3 ovarian cancer after I went to another dr. I was given 2 yrs to live. It has been 17 yrs and I'm still here and no sign of ovarian cancer. Second time another dr did a cancer check-up and said I was fine. My little dog sleeps with me and 2 wks later he crawled up on my chest to be petted. It hurt. I went for a mammogram and I had stg 2 breast cancer. I have no signs of breast cancer at this time and it's been 9 yrs. Have checkups no matter your age. 1st time I had chemo & 2nd time radiation. Guess it wasn't time to go. BTW, I'll be 71 in 2 wks. I'm glad to be alive and I really do enjoy life.

I was nineteen years old. A virgin. Unmarried, not dating anyone. In my sophomore year of college. I had a job making about $6.50 an hour as a bookstore clerk.
I'd been having terrible periods, so I went into a gynecologist for my first Pap smear and to get on the Pill, hoping it would lighten my periods, inhibit my cramps, and help my skin a little.
So the doctor comes in to the examination room, and the first words out of this woman's mouth were: "Hello! Can we persuade you to have a baby this year?"
I STARED at her, utterly dumbfounded, and explained that I was unmarried, a virgin, was in college, and had a low-paying job, so NO, there was no way on God's green earth she could POSSIBLY persuade me to have a baby this year, and seeing as how I wasn't really all that into babies in the first place, she was going to have a time of it persuading me to EVER have any babies.
Doc paid NO attention to any of the above, and launched into a big old spiel about how "it's better to have your babies when you're young!" When I pointed out that I didn't have a boyfriend and it would have to be a virgin birth, she assured me that a pretty girl like me shouldn't have any problem getting married soon. Right, like I was just going to grab any guy off the street who I suspected of having viable sperm and marry him, just because "it's better to have your babies" (babies, as it more than one) when you're young.
Needless to say, that was my last appointment with the crazy quack. The last thing I needed was to listen to my doctor trying to pressure me to become an unwed teenage mother.
I have a few. One was when I was in the hospital for a bladder surgery and they overdosed me on gentimycin. My level was like 14 when it should have been like 4. My lungs filled up with fluid and my kidneys shut down. I was then given Ativan and started hallucinating and having seizures. They finally got it all under control and I was released.
The next was when I was having surgery for a hysterectomy. I went in fine. I remember waking up from the surgery and asking the time. I went back to sleep to wake up 6 hours, yup 6 hours later on a ventilator. I look over and a nurse is trying to find a vein for an iv. I look at his hands and he has latex gloves on. Now I am severally allergic to latex. At this point my mom walks in the room and I am lucky to know some sign language and start trying to talk in sign with my hands tied to the bed. She started yelling at the guy to get the gloves off. Well the idiot then pulls them off on top of me and within 5 minutes I am covered in hives. My mom stayed and then heard a few doctors talking and one asking the other "Was she exposed to latex in the or?" The other one said "I think so." Even though I was breathing on my own and awake they kept me on the vent. for 3 days, 3 days of pure hell. Lets just say I spent 2 days in a regular room after that and was allowed to go home with several tubes because my doctor freaked out. I stopped seeing this doctor until just recently I had another surgery with him in february and his office has gone completely latex free. He also let me go after this last surgery after only 3 days with 4 tubes because he said "You are safer at home." After the surgery where I was exposed to latex we went and tried to get my medical records and have 1 page with 1 sentence from the recovery room. The rest had been destroyed.
