Bacterial pneumonia - did I cause it??
Question:
I had crap in my lungs for the entire month of July. I kept trying to keep up with my workouts anyway, but it was hard since my breathing was hindered.
I finally saw my doc today - he gave me antibiotics and ordered a chest x-ray - said I had "bacterial pneumonia".
Other than having crap in my lungs, I have felt perfectly fine. Did I cause my cold to become pneumonia by continuing to work out while sick? Should I now take a week off and wait for the antibiotics to kick in?
Answers:
I would not stop working out. Being active during this type of infection only helps purge the mucus in your lungs and prevents fluid from building up.
If you are able to sleep with a couple of pillows so that your upper body is on an incline I would suggest doing that. Sleeping on an incline will also keep fluid from building up in the lungs.
When people are hospitalized with this infection, they encourage activity. Lying flat only exacerbates the problem.
No you didn't, you contracted it, or you already had bacterial or infection issues, it just seemed like you had a cold, read the article the link takes you to.

By grace of God, (& touch wood), you have good resistance and vital energy so you could remain up and about all this month. Now you are taking treatment and you will be fine soon. Why should you stay in bed now? Take the treatment and healthy diet with vitamins, you will be alright. If you needed bed rest, your doc would have advised it.
All the best!
I would give it a rest for now hun.
