My daughter is on the waiting list for medicaid waiver for years now, how do we get in the system faster?

Question:
My 14 year old daughter has been receiving therapies for 11 years and the insurance recently stopped her occupationa l therapy ("not medically necessary") She is unable to talk, feed herself, no contrl of upper extremeties and still in diapers.
She almost drowned when she was 3 years old. Im at the point of giving up, for 11 years of battling the insurance company. Another sad thing is she's not qualified for any government medical assistance due to family income. Please help if you know of any ways to skip many years of waiting for medicaid waiver.

Answers:
Talk to a Medicaid case worker in your state. They should be able to enroll her under the disabilities code, which does not count income.

That doesn't mean she'll be able to resume her therapies though. As money becomes tighter, most states have limited therapy to "rehab" -- restoring function, rather than facilitating it.
That means many kids with severe disabilities don't get therapy because there will be no to minimal gains. Therapy to prevent deterioration is rarely funded.

The good news is, once she's established as "disabled" by Medicaid, they will pay for her diapers, and even better, you can get them delivered to you a month at a time.
you may need a lawyer. the typres of lawyers that handle medicaid issues get paid by medicaid (through court orders). find 1 in your area soon. good luck.
You can not skip the waiting list of med waiver unless say a parent dies or something awful medically happens. I have many friends on the list as well and skipping it just doesn't happen.
