What happens when you have a stroke?

Question:
my grandmother just had one and is in the hospital, what exactly happens, my mom says that she cannot speak

Answers:
A stroke is a blood clot in the brain that affects parts of the body, and sometimes speech as well. It can also be deadly. Some stroke patients improve, others don't it just depends on where the clot was in the brain, and how long it took to get medical help. My uncle recovered completely from his with no ill effects. My grandmother regained her speech, and could walk with assistance. My grandfather never spoke again till the day he passed away.
I hope you grandmother has a full recovery. Remember, no matter what, she is still the same person, even if she can't speak. Tell you mom, that you need to see your grandma, even if she can't speak. My parents didn't let me in to see my other grandmother when she was in the hospital, she died before I ever saw her again. My grandmother was my best friend in the whole world. I blamed my parents for that for many years. Let your mom read this. Maybe it will help.
It is a blood clot in the brain. It depends on which side of brain it strikes as to what it effects.

A stroke is caused by a ruptured blood vessel in the brain. When the vessel ruptures the area surrounding the rupture can be damaged and the parts of the brain that were supplied by the vessel will be damaged by lack of oxygen. The outcome for your grandmother will depend on what part of the brain the stroke occured in and how much of the brain was damaged. It will take seeks to months to know what the outcome for your grandmother will be. Be paitent and trust in her doctors, they will take good care of her.
