ihee's answer is reasonable, forget the others. snoring is not dangerous, and is not a sign of sleep apnea. sleep apnea is a legitimate diagnosis, either soft tissue related, or neurological.
one can have sleep apnea and not snore or have and snore. snoring can sometimes involve soft tissue of the throat, uvula, tongue, or tonsils, but does not mean you have sleep apnea.
to properly diagnose sleep apnea one needs a certified sleep apnea study. to diagnose snoring listen to your partner. few remedies actually cure snoring, while sleep apnea can be treated in a variety of successful ways, CPAP/BiPAP being very common. the confusion is that when CPAP treats sleep apnea it also takes care of snoring, but most often doctors do not prescribe CPAP for snoring, sort of like providing full scale surgery for a cut on your finger.
try all sorts of home remedies offered and maybe you'll come upon something that works for you. personally i am going to try the menthol in my nose, and the tape strips on the bridge of my nose.
Go to your doctor and have a sleep test done. You might find you are not getting enough oxgen at night and this is the cause of your snoring.
sleep on your side, or use those nose things that go across the top of it to open it up, they work well. vics vapor rub helps also. it opens you nose and throat up which may help. id also go to the doc. snoring can be a sign of sleep apnia, which is when your heart stops at night for moments, it can be dangerous.
spraying menthol or special medicated liquids on to the pillow or by using nose expanders, which expand the passage way. Cheaper option is to make sure she doesnt sleep on her back.
since snoring can be a serious symptom caused by sleep apnea; a sleep study would be advisable.
if your wife won't cooperate; try putting a tennis ball in a sock and pin it to her back before bed. theory is it should prevent her from lying on her back, hence eliminate the snoring.

How can this help?
Some people tend to snore when they breathe through their mouth while sleeping and their tongue is incorrectly positioned within the oral structure, effectively blocking their airway.
