Bronchitis symptoms?
Question:
Answers:
I have COPD chronic bronchitis and I have had episodes last 3 weeks or more. Take Musinex (sp?)! It brings all that stuff up! My doctor has me take it every time I get it along with using an inhaler. Z pak's stay working in your system for up to a week or more after you take the last pill. So don't get worried just yet. Get well soon!
Symptoms
Infectious bronchitis generally begins with the symptoms of a common cold: runny nose, sore throat, fatigue, chilliness, and back and muscle aches. A slight fever (100° to 101° F) may be present. The onset of cough (usually dry at first) signals the beginning of acute bronchitis. With viral bronchitis, small amounts of white mucus are often coughed up. When the coughed-up mucus changes from white to green or yellow, the condition may have been complicated by a bacterial infection.
With severe bronchitis, fever may be as high as 101° to 102° F and may last for 3 to 5 days even with antibiotic treatment. The cough is the last symptom to subside and often takes several weeks or even longer to resolve. Viruses can damage the epithelial cells lining the bronchi, and the body needs time to repair the damage. Airway hyperreactivity, which is a short-term narrowing of the airways with impairment or limitation of the amount of air flowing into the lungs, is common with acute bronchitis. The impairment of airflow may be triggered by common stimuli, such as inhaling mild irritants, inhaling cold, outdoor air, or smelling strong odors. If the impairment of airflow is severe, the person may be short of breath. Wheezing, especially after coughing, is common.
Serious complications, such as acute respiratory failure (see Respiratory Failure) or pneumonia (see Pneumonia: Introduction), usually occur only in people who have an underlying chronic lung disease, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or asthma.
I've had bronchitis several times and never coughed up white stuff, just had a bad cough, and a whole lot of wheezing.
I would say that something might still be wrong, see your doctor as soon as you can.
P.S. I hate it when people just copy and paste info from wikipedia :(
Nope, you are coughing up flem. That is the stuff that ran from your nose down your throat to your lungs. That is very common. You may be doing this for a couple of weeks. Start taking a multi vitamin and alot of vitamin C. That will help you flush your system.

this is ok. you may cough up stuff for another few days or a week. the key here is whether its getting to be less or more, should be less; and is it changing color, nothing really wrong with white, but frothy bubbly white could be a problem is it were more than a cupful in a few hours, also it should not go green or dark yellow which might indicate a return of the infectious process. and lastly it should not have a foul (stinky) odor.
symptoms that you may experience is a little audible wheezing until you cough out the stuff, then the wheezing goes away, shortness of breath, particularly as the mucus accumulates in the large airway, once you clear it then you may feel breathable again. and maybe some fatique or tiredness, typical of infections.
you should not have a fever above 101 which does not respond to aspirin or tylenol.
thats about it. bronchitis can be very bothersome but is not considered life threatening. follow up should be on your list in about a week to two weeks, sooner if you feel you are absolutely getting worse.
