Am i diabetic?
Question:
What is going on?
Answers:
Your blood sugar goes up from eating the sugar. You need to be safe and get checked from your Dr. because of the thirst and peeing. It is better to be safe than sorry. Don't eat sugar foods if possible also.
Dont check you sugar until atleast 2 hours after you eat. Even in non-diabetics it takes about that long to return to normal. A good time to check it is also in the morning when you first wake up. If it is under 100, great. You are fine. If it is between 101-125 it is considered pre-diabetic.keep an eye on your diet. If it is higher, it is likely you are a diabetic. If you exercise and watch your diet you can keep your sugar under control with out meds. Maybe thats a good idea considering your family history.
Well, a normal sugar should really never be above 200 or so, and certainly not over 500. You should see your doctor and have a formal fasting glucose level taken (or just take a fingerstick first thing in the morning) and a glucose tolerance test, you may have diabetes, or a prediabetic condition called impaired glucose tolerance where your glucose is normal most of the time, but spikes after you eat, especially if you eat sugar.
The first thing I would do though is take your blood sugar first thing in the morning for a few days straight and see your doctor.
Oh, and if you have a family history of diabetes, you should try to follow a diabetic diet, it's not a lot of fun, I know, not much in the way of sweets or carbs, but it's going to be of benefit to you in the future.
Time to go get checked out! You have a History of Diabetes in your family and over 500 is consider very serious! Play it safe go to your doctor and tell him what you told us he or she will run Lab tests to see what your blood sugars have been running and start you on treatment if needed! Remember there is no such thing any more as being Borderline! If your reg doctor says you are just borderline, he or she is behind the times and you may need to go to doctor who specializes in Diabetics ! I hope this helps Nurse Vicki RN though medically retired and also a Diabetic
you might have a slight case of type two diabetes.since the blood sugars don't stay at a constant that might be a sign.Since your family carries a blood line of diabetes it might be passed on to you.
You could be in the early stages of what I assume to be Type 1 diabetes.
Obvious question: Did you wash your hands after licking the jawbreaker and before testing you blood sugar? That can account for the varying results you posted. Certain fingers may have had large amounts of residue, which is pure sugar.
Regardless, with your family history and symptoms, schedule an appointment with your doc. Early Type 1 diabetes can present like this.
