I am scared of needles?

i got diabetes on dec 27 2004 and i'm 12 now, they don't hurt, sometimes pinch a little but that's all. My mom used to give me shots but now i have an insulin pump. I would lay on the bed hug my bear or the pillow don't breath for 30 seconds cause then somehow i didn't feel the pain, then try to relax. and close my eyes the shot was over after 5 seconds or so, and sometimes just for fun i kept a journal and wrote how long it took the needle to go in give me insulin and come out because i used to count.
Don't be scared. Needles can, and often do, save lives. A tiny little twinge of pain for a brief moment is nothing compared to the suffering that could result without the shot.
I'm right there with you, I am SOOO bad with shots. Actually, I start crying and I pass out everytime. Just don't look at the needle - it makes me act worse. Also, have someone with you and squeeze their hands and have them squeeze yours too, it helps.
Good Luck (=
Whenever I go to get a shot I always bring someone with me that I feel really comfortable with. I face them and squeeze their hand and I don't, under any circumstance, look at the needle going into my arm. That just makes it all worse. So just breath and be calm about it and find someone to go with you and all will be good.
Good luck!
Keep your chin up Shorty, your not alone many people feel that way, Just tell your self it ain't no big deal, not a matter of life and death. Only lasts for a short time. by the time you get done it will be over and done with,
Don't worry. I'm always scared too. First you just wanna get it over with and leave and continue your wonderful life. But when you actually do it, it's not that bad :)
God bless and good luck!
well i used to be a lab tech-"phlebotomist" , and what alot of ppl told me was it was easier not to look at the needle-remember these techs are trained for all kinds of theses types of situations -you can ask for a "butterfly"needle -its used for small children -and pediatric patients --tell the technician you are afraid-i had full grown adults tell me the same thing -try to think of something funny --it helps i had a 99 percent rate of success -not "fishing" for a vein -and never had one person faint - you can do it -
Having done around 43,000 injections on myself I have to tell you they are less painful and go in easier if you take a deep breath in, breathe out and relax all your muscles.
If it makes it easier for you, take something that distracts you and try to focus on it ...try unwrapping or folding something with the arm they're not using
If you need to be a baby and cry about it, go ahead ...they might even give you a sweety (c;
Don't look at them preparing the needle, or god forbid at the needle actually going into you.
Maybe try to meditate a little, bring a stuffed animal, hum a song, hell sing out loud if it'll help. What do you care what they think?
just thank about ice cream its cold an relaxing and you no it takes care of all pains everybody has a weakness but there is a cure for most all thangs goodluck
I'm diabetic - have been for over 15 years. I STILL don't like needles, it's believed that since one does injections, needles aren't a big deal. You just don't think about it and do what you need to do because it's for your own health. Just try not to focus on it too much. Good luck!
