Operation undone?

When I was 4 (14 years ago) I had a fundoplication because I had severe reflux and was born without a valve. Ever since then I have not been able to throwup until recently. My symptoms of reflux are back. I feel sick in the chest/throat area. But I have new symptoms. Pain in the upper stomach, splien and Endocrime ( it hurts to push in) IS it possible my opereation has come undone?>

How much have you grown since age 4? Think about how the esophagus and the fundoplication have stretched to accommodate the growth. Now whether it has come undone or just stretched to the point that it's no longer working properly is something that your doctor will help you with.

This is the most likely chain of events: You need to see your family doctor and ask for a referral to a GI doctor, who will probably evaluate your old fundoplication by an EGD, where he'll give you light sedation and insert a tube down into the area to look around. If he is concerned, he will send you to a general surgeon, who will then make his assessment and might fix you up or offer an alternative.

The first step, though, is call your doctor and get a referral. Prilosec OTC might help the epigastric/upper abdominal/reflux symptoms while you wait for your appointment, but call the doc and see if you can get some free samples of the same class but stronger medicine as OTC. Shoot, tell them that some crazy tiger-obsessed nurse on Yahoo told you about Zegerid!
