Is there a way to get rid of stretch marks (besides plastic surgery)?

Question: If not, is there a way to mask them or make them less noticable?

There are lots of creams that say they get rid of stretch marks, but I haven't found a single one yet that works... and my doctor told me the reason is because stretch marks are under the skin... they don't go away, kinda like a tattoo...mine don't bother me as bad as when I was younger... you get used to them.
