I'm worried about joining the Cross Country team?

I've been a type I diabetic since I was 9 years old. I ran cross-country for a couple years. Cutting back a little on your insulin might be ok, but I think a better plan would be to keep your insulin consistent and load up on some sugar before and after your race. Use gatorade or juice if you can handle drinking. Use hard candy if fluids make you cramp up. Make sure you test both before and after as well.
Have you looked into getting a pump? I've had one for about 4 years now. It's awesome.
i would suggest you get one of those high-tech wrist monitors & also have a buddy system,,like in marathons..my husband is a runner, but every so many miles there is someone to give him Shaklee performance which is lower & more safer that the popular otc brand. it last a long time & i choked full of vitamins,i guess that 's why they call it :endurance",keep up w/your dr. too.
wouldnt hurt to google it & dont forget the wrist band..lots of luck to ya & i admire you & my husband cause of you determination..God Bless you shug.
I am a bit confused about what you mean by not being on a monitor ?
I hope you are monitoring your sugars.
There is no reason not to join a sports team. You will keep your monitor and fast sugar right with you on the track.
Always check before running . Lower your insulin and have a hi carb snack before practice.
I am sure your endocrinologist can help you figure out the numbers.
