How can you tell if you have overproduction of stomach acid versus low stomach acid?
Question:
Answers:
Yep, teaspoon of vinegar will ease the low acid burn.
Eat, less gassy foods, like onions, ect.
overproduction would lead to burning in your stomach, possibly some diarrhea, problems with blood in your stool,
possibly vomiting, which would contain some acid and work on your esophagus.
underproduction could lead to vomiting because the food is not being broken down in your stomach.
constipation could occur. there are more possibilities, but keep track of your symptoms, when they occur, their severity,
what you eat and even what you find makes you feel better when they occur like changing body position, drinking a little water, or not drinking water, are you having regular bowel movements, etc. and let the doctor know all these things when you go to see the doc.
it will all help paint a picture of the answer.

I have had high acid levels for a long time. I have had an a device implanted that was called bravo encapsulation into my stomach by my gastroenterologist and there was a monitoring device with memory. Mine showed very high acid level. Yes I have acid reflux or GERD. I also noticed that my teeth were developing alot of gum line cavities. I went to my dentist and he told me that I have a high acid level that is destroying my teeth. When I decided to get all my teeth removed, it took 2 to 3 hours for the surgery. The oral surgeon told me every time he put the extractor on a tooth it crumbled. I elected to get my teeth removed since I have an autoimmune disease that prevents me from having numbing agents and 2 hours in the chair would not be good for my muscles either. I was a dental assistant when I was younger and took excellent care of my teeth. My dentist upon seeing my teeth initially asked me "what happened to you?" I told him divorce. He said stress will raise the acid level.
I can only give you my personal experience and my doctors statements.
If you wish to know about low acid production search for: hypochlorhydria
hypo-acidity and hyper-acidity are quite different
hypo-acidity, usually in old age and results from disturbance of the immune system and is associated with anemia
Local symptoms include: stomach distension and bad smell of the mouth and may be symptomless.
Hyper-acidity, on the other hand is usually associated with heartburn which may be due to inflammation or ulceration of the stomach or secondary to acid reflux into the esophagus.
