If you have had a blood clot, please read?

Question:
First, I do plan on seeing a doctor if the pain doesn't subside in the next few days. I'm just curious what symptoms you had when/ if you have had a blood clot in your leg.

I am at high risk for them, due to APS, and I'm currently pregnant. I take a baby aspirin daily but have never had a clot, to my knowledge.

The pain is in the back of my left leg, in the calf area. It's a little swollen but not much more than my right calf, if any. Last night it looked red and was a little warm but that is gone today. The pain is mostly when I walk. It feels more like a muscle cramp than what I imagined the pain from a blood clot might feel like.

Can the heat and swelling come and go??
Does the pain come and go also (mine does) and feel similar to a muscle cramp?

If you have had one, what specific symptoms did you have?

Thank you!!

Answers:
When I had a blood clot in my leg, I noticed that the affected leg was slightly swollen and larger than the other. I noticed that one pant leg felt tighter than the other. It was also slightly red and warmer to the touch than the other. I experienced pain in the area where the leg met the hip (my blood clot started in that area), almost like I had pulled a muscle badly or pinched a nerve. As time went on I also had difficulty walking. Another thing that was really painful was the motion of lifting up my leg to get into my car. As I'm sure you know, blood clots can be life threatening. It is better to be safe than sorry and get it checked out sooner rather than later. I almost died from one when I was 23. Good luck!
i think it would be very painful like a throbbing kind.hard to walk on it and maybe swelling.of course this is a very big deal so always ask your doctor if you have one or think you do
go to the ER or doctor right away.dont cross your legs alot and get exercise.
take this problem very seriously.
if the clot travels through your bloodstream to your lungs,
heart, brain you could easily die.
it would cut off bloodflow to these organs with immediate and possibly disasterous effects.
a filter can be easily placed in your vein between the clot and your heart to stop its progress,
the doctor will probably also have you on coumadin and heparin to thin your blood a little and stop the clots from growing bigger and more clots from forming.
unfortunately, you will have to go to the hospital for this to be done safely.
for your own health and that of your baby, get this checked now! it is toooooo big of a risk to gamble with.
get examined by your doctor right away.

I have never had a blood clot in my leg, but I have had massive cramping in my calves when I was pregnant. It was not all the time, but they were horrible. They were always in the calves. Good Luck!
i have had a dvt for the past 10 mos.got it after surgery, and mine too is in the left lower calf, at 1st.diagnosis, i had to take injections of lovenox, to jump start the coumadin, it very much does feel like a charlie horse, so to speak, with some kind of pinching sensation, my leg is swollen, red, and cool to the touch, but also does at times feel warm, i was told (that since i'm off the coumadin now for 6 days) to keep an eye on the symptons, like when u bend ur foot towards u if u still have that pinching feeling, also the redness and the swelling, so far i still do have that, and that i may still have these feelings cause of the existence of the blood clot for so long, needless to say PLEASE at ur very first opp go and get checked these are not to be taken lightly, i'm still terrified. good luck to u and ur baby
Hi Nina,

mine was years ago, and in the shoulder/armpit area.

But yes, along with noticeable swelling to my arm and shoulder there was also pressure and pain that seemed to come and go.

If you are susceptible to them, I would definitely be cautious.
Pain and swelling, nausea and constant feeling of either vomiting or passing out were my symptoms. If I were you I would go to the Dr ASAP because if that clot moves it can travel to your heart and give you a heart attack. Search embolism for more info.
Don't freak but try to rest as much as possible to avoid it dislodging and moving.
Good luck and remember, get to the Dr yesterday.
The again it may not be a clot, if you are pregnant the baby could be sitting on a nerve and pinching it. This can also cause similar symptoms. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and beyond!
xx K
