If I get a cold sore...does that mean I have herpes?

Answers:
A cold sore is caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus, usually Type 1. They say that about 90% of people are infected with this strain of Herpes. One thing , however, people don't realize is that someone who gets cold sores can transmit Herpes to their partner genitally through oral sex or vice versa. Check out this article:

Also, there are all sorts of different mouth sores. Canker sores are not caused by the Herpes virus for instance. Here is a good article about the different types of mouth sores:

If you are concerned, you can request a type specific blood test to see if you have HSV Type 1 or 2. If you do have either type, they are manageable so don't freak out too badly. :-)
