Yeah, I think that it IS possible with loads of self control. It would be better if the alcoholic sobers up for a few months. And then when he/she decides to try alcohol again, he/she should have a friend there to make sure he/she drinks just a small glass to begin with.
Most people find the greatest success in not drinking at all. Completely stopping. But a glass of wine at a wedding should be ok if the alcoholic has had enough time away from alcohol and is very resolute and committed to not going back.
