What are impressions found on a CT scan?
Question:
Answers:
There is nothing like impressions in radiography. She must have meant that there may be a few artefacts(an unintended, unwanted visual aberration in the images) which makes a diagnosis difficult. What did the previous scan look like?It is very unlikely to be multiple lesions if the previous CT was normal and the lung nodule was normal as well.
I think it is better to wait for a radiologist's report before running into conclusions.
Impressions are " things of interest" or, can mean that the results need to be read more carefully to be sure that the radiologist's findings are accurate. No, they are necessarily bad but, do warrant in-depth reading of the findings.
I have been a registered CT technologist for about 15 years, and I have no idea what the nurse was talking about! Was the nurse looking at the written report provided by the radiologist, or was she looking at the actual images? Nurses should not be trying to interpret a CT scan, just like I shouldn't! It is out of the scope of both of our job description. That is the radiologist's (a medical doctor) job. If I am not qualified to interpret a CT scan, a nurse certainly is even less qualified. There are many things that nurses do which I am not qualified to do and vice versa. Please wait until your mother's doctor has time to review the radiologist's report or the actual images of the CT scan to get a better idea of what is really happening. Impressions are something the radiologist makes when he/she is reading images. Impression is the same as the findings.
