Formaldehyde in the air?

Question:
Becoming aware of its use in wood and other consumer goods. Is there any other uses for it other than in detergents, per say anything perceived illegal. It affects my bronchial, mucus production and gives me headaches, therefore I must be allergic. I have noticed a pungent odor in my neighborhood in the last 4 years usually coming from the exhaust pipes of the Apt laundries and at times in the middle of the night, early morning.

Answers:
Formaldehyde is an irritant. It affects everyone this way. It does not mean you are allergic. Laundries have pungent odors. Your nose is working just fine.
