Question:
My father took Angiogram test last wednesday and was discharged from hospital the next day morning.. On the second day at home, he had problems like giddiness and sever head ache. also he was passing urine every 30 minutes. On the third day morning he had severe head ache, and after taking a mosambi juice at 11am in the morning, he started vomitting...he vomited 3 times and in the afternoon we went to general physician and took tablets for fever and injection to stop vomitting.. His pressure was found 100/60 at this time. fever came down and vomitting stopped the same day , but in the night he was passing urine every 30 minutes. On the fourth day after taking the medicine beltac he is feeling pain in his arms and hands... Is this common after doing Angiogram? , what should be done in this situation ? He is of 62 yrs age and is a diabetic since 1999. He is controlling it through diet. After taking angiogram his suger level went high (217) (Before doing Angiogram it was normal)
Answers:
could be a few things. starting with the diabetes. he is passing urine so much because of the diabetes. the kidneys are trying to get rid of sugar in blood by urinating, but you obviously lose a lot of water in doing this and get dehydrated. this could lead to a low blood pressure, you should really keep an eye on the sugar levels, he might need to start on some tablets or insulin. i am in australia, the levels we use are different, so i'm not sure how high 217 is.
in regard to the angiogram, it is unusual he should be this unwell. the dye used during the angiogram is toxic to the kidneys, and needs to be flushed out by drinking plenty of water. diabetes causes problems with kidneys too (nephropathy)
don't know about the arm/hand pain, but if it is left arm pain could be referred pain. may be cardiac in origin.
fever could just be inflammatory reaction and should settle.
follow up with your gp again if he stays unwell
