Why do companies discriminate against people who have diabetes?
Question:
Answers:
There are lots of companies who discriminate. They foresee lots of illness in the future and lots of time off. Time = money to a company. The insurance companies cringe when they have to cover a diabetic for an employer. That means rates go up. Try getting an individual policy thru an insurance company. You can't! They are considered uninsurable! So to all those that said the companies don't discriminate, you must have wonderful and understanding employers. But there are just as many out there that don't and won't try to understand what a diabetic is and does. They see shortened life span and lots of illness. That simply isn't true. Lots of diabetics live long, healthy lives. Too bad we can open the eyes of everyone.
I have Epilepsy which is well controlled and have found getting a job can be much the same problem.
I am not onvinced that they do.

Take care and all the best getting work in the future.
The reason is that they foresee time off and sick pay and problems at work. It is discrimination and is against the law.
They don't want to pay higher insurance rates for people who have a predisposition to disease and risk factors. I think pre-employment physicals should be illegal.
If your in the UK any company that discriminates against you because of Diabetes is breaking the law under the Disability Discrimination Act. As you do not say how you have been discrimintated against it is hard to give a more specific answer. For further advise I would contact Diabetes UK.
I have never found that to be so.
In the US, people with diabetes are protected by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). There have been some narrow interpretations of this law that have left some diabetics excluded. The American Diabetes Association is working, with others to change that. Below is a link which explains the situation and tells how you can get involved if you're interested.
