Quit using the Acne Free. It's very harsh. A sensitivity to certain cleansers may be giving you acne. Try Cetaphil cleanser and moisturizer for a few weeks. After the dryness and redness go away, I would go ahead and order Proactiv. It's great for sensitive AND acne-prone skin. Since I can't see your skin, I have to assume it's one or the other. Proactiv will not aggravate sensitivity in most people. The generic products that say they are comparable to Proactiv really aren't. I've tried them all and looked at all the ingredients. The only one that has the exact same ingredients is Klear Action. But... you have to remember that even these generic cleansers don't use the same grade of ingredients either. Proactiv uses the best ingredients and you will see such a HUGE difference in your skin.
Try seeing your dermatologist and getting a prescription for your acne. As a sixteen year old I had very bad acne, but I got a skin care regimen that cleaned it up right away because I got something that suited my needs. :)
If you do not want to go this route, you can also buy makeup products or hypoallergenic products that suit your needs. For example, buy products for dry, oily, or uneven skin tone from the Neutrogena company. Physician's Formula is also great for sensitive skin (it's mineral makeup so you can literally wear it while you're sleeping), and bonus: usually the powders are SPF 20. =) Some things you should avoid in your skin-care products are Mineral Oil (a petroleum by-product), Lanolin, PABA, Artificial Fragrance (irritates your skin), Phenol (may cause rashes/hives), Formaldehyde, and Urocanic acid (can aggravate sensitive skin) - these can cause you to break out more.
And above all, always make sure to put on an SPF 15+ lotion before you go outside, even in winter and on cloudy days. It will keep you looking 30 years old when you're 50 and will keep you from getting skin cancer. ;) Acne products can make you more susceptible to sun damage, so a good sun-care regimen is also very relevant. (I use Aveeno calming moisturizer SPF 15 and it's great!).
I use Dove face lotion (with spf 15). I have really sensitive skin that breaks out easily and really only have to use it when I use acne products that dry it out. It smells a bit like my grandmother (but that goes away when it dries which is quickly), but other than that I'm really happy with it. I've also used a clinique one, but I hated it and it was really expensive.
Clinique's Dramatically Different gel. I swear by it, as does everyone I know that has tried it. It's a little pricey, but SO worth it! It won't clog pores but really moisturizes without feeling heavy or greasy. Good luck!
I use the Olay complete all day moisture lotion. Get the kind for sensitive skin. It is not too oily so it won't make your face break out. It's gently so it won't sting either. I have used the Eucerin lotion before and that stuff feels like pudy on your face...It will cause you to break out really bad. Try Olay you can find it at target or rite aide. It's a little more expensive but it's worth it. Good luck! :-)
cetaphil is the best face lotion i have ever used! i recommend it to anyone!
