What causes cold sores ?

Question:
i woke up to 2 cold sores no warnings signs like tingling and ,i haven't had one in a long time i'm using abreva ,i was wondering would rubbing acholcol help dry them out.

Answers:
It's caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus Type I - which 90% of people are exposed to as a child, but only some get recurring infections. The virus lies dormant in the nerves and some factors can cause an outbreak such as exposure to sun, hormone level changes, or stress. Rubbing alcohol will dry them out, but it may also irritate them. The best over-the-counter medication is L-Lysine, which can be found at any discount store or pharmacy. You just have to take a few pills a day, depending on the dosage.
