I am diabetic and lost 70 pounds. I have not take medication, cause of no insurance to pay for pills.?

Question:
Since I stop taken pills, that is when I lost the weight and my sugar came down 150 points.
Now, I have done this a few time here lately. I have gotten so busy trying to do my work. I forget to eat breakfast and end up eating lunch about 3:00pm. My sugar is high. I didn't even eat anything sweet. Or high in fat. my sugar went to 404. What happened?? I feel fine just runned down cause of heat.

Answers:
It's ok to eat fat. Fat doesn't convert to sugar in the blood stream and won't make your blood sugar go up. Try to eat protein and fat with some veggies, but stay away from grains or sugars. A small amount of fruit is ok, better when consumed with fat like peaches and cream or strawberries and cream. That will help keep your blood sugar down.

In the past when young children developed DM early in life, it was called juvenile diabetes. That is a good descriptive name even though it isn't used very much anymore. This type of DM, juvenile diabetes, is an auto immune disease. There is no other good treatment except insulin. You can't control it with diet very well.

When older people develop DM, it can usually be controlled pretty well by the food choices they make. You need to learn what foods cause your sugar to soar and avoid them. That doesn't mean to starve yourself, just eat what won't cause your blood sugar to spike.

Fat is a wonderful food. It will not cause your blood sugar level to soar. You could eat eggs fried in butter, olives, macademia nuts, avocados, beef or pork fried in olive oil, etc. All those high fat foods will not cause your blood sugar to rise so high. Another option is protein. It does raise your blood sugar some, but not as much as carbohydrates will. The last type of foods would be carbohydrates. These include sugar, grains, and fruits. All these things are seen as sugar in your body and will raise your blood sugar. Eat them sparingly, and with a fat. If you eat bread, make it a whole grain and slather it in butter or oil to slow the sugar spike in your blood stream. Try to stick with berries in the fruit choices. They are the lowest sugar fruit. Eat only whole grains and do it very sparingly. Stay away from juices completely. They digest too quickly and will spike your blood sugar. If you have fruit, eat it whole and even better, eat it with fat and protein.

You have to keep your blood sugar levels in mind when you eat. Calories are not as important to you as how your food digests. You want slowly digested foods (like fats), so your body has a more even blood sugar never a spike. Don't worry about what everyone else things or says, You always make your food choices with the blood sugar spike in mind. You have to eat based on your body and what it does, not based on some chart that is made for non-diabetic people. You always keep the sugar level spike in mind.

Don't "wait to eat". Try to eat steadily all day. You cause a sugar spike if you eat a big meal all at once. You have to keep your blood sugar stable. Do it with small, frequent protein and fat consumption. Cheese and turkey make a great snack. Pork rinds, olives, macademia nuts, cream cheese on celery. sugar-free peanut butter on celery, etc. Avoid consuming either grains or fruits alone without a protein or fat.

I don't have any great ideas about health care. The lack of basic medical care in our society is cruel and horrendous. It shows the greed and arrogance of America. If you become ill, go to the ER. In most states, they cannot turn you away no matter what. Your life is more important than anything else. You can worry about money later just save your life now.
CHROMIUM PICOLINATE OR CHROMIUM HISTIDONATE !
Ask any good anti-aging doctor. I was diabetic anad have no problems,. now for almost 20 years ! It strenthens the pancreas, which regulates the blood sugar levels in the body. It's mostly nutiritional. But weight-lifting exercises is apart of a full recovery.

No, you're not just feeling run down because of the heat; you're feeling that way because your glucose level is 404. You are at a dangerously high level.

You need to have a doctor if you have Diabetes. If you don't have a lot of money, go to the hospitals in your area & go to their clinics. They are very cheap & you can get your meds for free or for a very low price. You must have had a doctor once before to get diagnosed. Call him/her & ask how to get into a clinic.

You cannot continue untreated — you will die, in the worst-case scenario; you can go blind, lose your legs to amputation and more. I don't think you want any of that.

Some people with Type 2 are able to control their Diabetes without meds, by losing a lot of weight & maintaining a healthy diet & exercise program. My own brother-in-law did it. I'm very impressed with the dedication of those who can do that.

But you can't just stop your meds and think you'll be OK — you won't be. You still need a doctor & the meds. Then, if you are able to try a more natural way to keep the weight off and get help in learning what to eat & what not to eat, your numbers will go down. Then, your doctor can start to lower your meds until, hopefully, you can be off them.

But right now you need to find a doctor. You don't eat breakfast, and you don't get to lunch until 3pm. That's not handling a diet well. There are city hospitals that have to take you, even if you can't afford to pay them. I know quite a few people who are not poor enough to get government benefits, but don't earn enough to pay for insurance. They either go to the emergency rooms of city hospitals or go to clinics in any hospital.

Good luck; get healthy again.
your sugar went up because you stopped taking your meds. I am on Byetta and absolutely love it..Take the chromiun picolinate too!!
Go to the county hospital. They will help you and the cost will be minimal. Often medication is not needed for people who eat right. Eat meat, vegetables, and whole grains. Eat small meals more often. Big meals are bad. Don't drink soda unless it is diet. No fruit.
if you have a doctors prescription, walmart and sams club has a genetic drug program, cost is $4.00 for a month supply, no insurance require. you can veiw the drug list @ walmart.com
Definitely check for free clinics or agencies who may be able to assist you with your meds. You must take them! Abosolutey necessary.
