Lot's of luck to you guys, and I hope he's feels better soon!
Victims may experience these symptoms:
Severe pain at bite site after about four hours
Severe itching
Nausea
Vomiting
Fever
Myalgias (muscle pain)
Initially the bite site is mildly red and upon close inspection may reveal fang marks. Most commonly, the bite site will become firm and heal with little scaring over the next few days or weeks. Occasionally, the local reaction will be more severe with erythema and blistering, sometimes leading to a blue discoloration ultimately leading to a necrotic lesion and scaring.
Blistering (common)
Necrosis (death) of skin and subcutaneous fat (less common)
Severe destructive necrotic lesions with deep wide borders (rare

From what I know it just looks like a typically sore until the venom starts taking effect in a day or so. Good thing he is going to the doctor tomorrow. It only takes a few days for those bites to turn ugly.
My aunt was bit by one and that is exactly what it looks like on the first day. It resembles a mosquito bite and quickly accelerates from there. Tell him to keep his appointment. This bite can make its way into the bone and need surgery.

As far as I know, a brown recluse bite is far more dangerous than a black widow. My friend got bitten while hiking and his leg ballooned up to a huge size! It doesn't sound too bad what you're describing, but if he really thinks a recluse bit him, he needs to go to the emergency room!
OMG! go to the doctor right away! Im not kidding! they are very dangerous and could get infected very fast. Don't wait til tomorrow..i heard they were life threatening. I could be wrong but i just got out of a CPR/First Aid class and to the best of my knowledge they are not good. Its better to be safe then sorry. I heard they are painless for up to 8 hrs. but don't risk it. go to the ER right away
