What are its side effects? How effective is it compared to other drugs?

Apparently not.

This medication was just approved in October, 2006, less than a year ago. I'm always a little cautious about a drug that new. It's not evough time to know what the long-term side effects are. Also, while it must be proven safe in trials for it to be approved, sometimes safety issues come to the surface only after very widespread use of a new drug.
Ive been on Januvia about 6 months now. It works well. No real side effects, promotes weight-loss rather then weigt gain like many other types of diabetic medicine. The down side is its fairly expensive. Make sure your insurance covers it before you start taking it. If you dont have insurance its about 180 bucks a month with insurance I think I still pay 40 bucks a month for it.
