How did i become immune to poison ivy?
Question:
thanks! -George
Answers:
Some people appear to be immune, others become immune. HOWEVER, you can gain or lose immunity, so to assume you can't get it if you never have before is foolish. People change as they age. I would never assume that I was immune at any time no matter what my past experience was.
u r not human , jokin , y dyu care y , u should b celebratin!
youre superman!
I dont know but pass it on to me! i just had to take steroids to get rid of it!
and dont laugh too hard, your body can change back!!
Poison Ivy is only caused by the spores of the plant. You cannot catch it from a friend who has it. That said, poison ivy is like an allergic reaction. Some people who are allergic to dogs get immune to their allergy after a few years. Same with you. However, there are many types of poison ivy, and you may be immune to only the type that grows in the woods nearest. Be careful.
I don't know, but I've never gotten it either. As a kid I picked it and rubbed it on me because everyone else at camp had it but me and I still didn't get it, thank God!
The only way I know to become immune is to eat the posion ivy. You start out with a leaf or two and work your way up to a whole salad.
Sometimes your system can develop it's own anti-histamines and an allergy will cease. Conversely, your body can become allergic again at any time. So, always be cautious!
Not everyone is affected by poison ivy, it's only if you are allergic to it. I'm not allergic to poison ivy therefore it doesn't affect me. Maybe you've just grown out of your allergicness (that is not a word) to poison ivy. Some people are allegric to things when they're kids and when they grow up they are no longer so maybe that's your case.
Your body will become immune to poison ivy just like anything else. HOWEVER there are many types of poison ivy and you are not immune to all types. Even the same plant can mutate and the plant that you are 'immune' to now can harm you later. So be careful and beware poison ivy always!
It happens, I know alot of people who break out as soon as it touches their skin, and others it just does not effect them. It has to do how your body reacts to the oils of the plant. I know some people it takes 2 weeks after touching it to effect them.
I'm not an MD but I can tell you that the reverse happened to me. When I was a kid, I used to play around it all the time. When I was 23 I got it all over my body, from the bottom of my feet, to the scalp on my head. It was not pleasant. I ended up at the Emergency room, it was so bad. The doctor told me the body is constantly changing. Some people develop allergies, while others grow out of them. Consider yourself blessed!
FYI: The "poison" of the poison ivy plant is actually the oil that coats the leaves. You cannot contract it from someone else that already has it, unless they still have the oil from the leaf on them. That stuff about spreading it from scratching it is also untrue, again unless the oil from the plant is still on you. The way it spread on me was that unknowingly, I had the oil from the plant on my shoes, and just kept wearing the same shoes. Every time I put on and tied my shoes, I had some of the oil on my hands. Lessons learned... sometimes the hard way! I hope you continue to be "un-allergic"
