Kidneys producing too much salt??

Question:
My mother in law has just found out that her kidneys are producing too much salt and needs to go for further tests. She has hardly any salt in her diet so what could be the reason for this? She is in her late 60's.

Answers:
Kidney's filter not produce. It could be that her kidneys are not functioning properly and failing to balance her electrolytes.
not always.. depends wat u eat
I've never heard of kidneys "producing salt." She may be having kidney failure and should get to a specialist.
Maybe you mean that her kidneys are not functioning well and in effect the kidneys cant maintain the appropriate salt balance in the body. A lot of conditions can affect the kidneys and cause it to mess up the salt balance. Your mother in law could be diabetic and be presenting with diabetic nephropathy. She can be hypertensive and have hypertensive nephropathy. She can have gout and have gouty nephrosclerosis. She could have kidney stones (that cause obstruction). But unless you have it checked by a doctor, you'll never know. :)
