Tar-like patches on skin from insect bite? Help!?

Question:
My 10-yr. old was digging in the dirt 2 days ago and came in with 4 tar-like patches on his side, about 1/2 inch big each. Now, he has a rash completely surrounding the area, and the 4 patches look embedded into his skin and the area surrounding the patches is raised like a welt. He goes to the doctor late tonight and I was just trying to find some insight as to what it could be. Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks :)

Answers:
you should go to a doctor and check it out, i couldn't find out what bug it was, but don't scratch it or put anything on it, until a doctor says it's ok. in the meantime, look it up on the internet, and find out what bug it is. or it could have been a poisonous plant he brushed up against, even without knowing it. go back and look where he was playing, but wear gardening gloves, and clothes that cover you. if you find any weird bugs that you think are suspicious, trap them in bug-catchers or clear, resealable jars like ziplock jars that you're ok with throwing out. then, google the description of the bug, or post it here, and i'll try to help.
OMG! That sounds like a brown recluse bite to me. You better get him checked out ASAP.
i would say a spider, go to the doctor
