How do I lower my cholesterol?

Increase your fiber, especially "soluble" fiber, like oat bran, but also eat more fruits and vegetables.
Eliminate red meat or make it an occasional treat. Eat more fish, more white meat chicken and turkey (dark meat--legs and thighs--is almost as bad as beef, pork, ham, and lamb). And try to skip meat altogether a couple of times a week. Just have a salad and veges for dinner.
Get exercise. Yeah, I know. It's a pain, and it takes time. But if you exercise every day, or nearly every day, it will make a big difference in your cholesterol. Try to walk fast at least 1/2 hour per day. No strolling around; you really have to move as fast as you can go comfortably.
Take fish oil caplets, which you can buy over the counter at most drug stores. Two or three a day will help lower your cholesterol. But don't rely on them alone. You need to make lifestyle changes--eating better and getting more exercise--to make a big difference. Good luck!!
Try eating healthy whole grain foods that are rich in fiber. Fresh fruits and veggies, cherios cereal, whole wheat bread are a few examples. You can also diet and excercise too. Another thing you can do but don't take it everyday is to get some fibercon tablets and just take 2 every other day. Yes, it makes you go to the bathroom but it also contains 100% pure fiber. If you take too much of it you will get diarhrea so don't overdue it. Also make sure you drink lots of water since this stuff can absorb all the extra water in your system and make you become dehydrated very quickly especially during the hot summer.
if none of that works try asking your dr about lipitor. It is GREAT stuff!
good luck
