Once the urushiol poison (poison from poison ivy) has had contact with the skin, it is quickly bound to the skin. The poison can be washed off within a short time after contact, but once bound to the skin, it cannot be washed away.
In that short time b4 it is bound to the skin i believe that it might be communicable (can affect other people), but i just found that someone said that it cannot be transferred through the rash but it can be spread through the oil so its better to wash it off as quickly as possible
It is particular that you don't touch anybody for about a week. Put medicine on and the rash will go away.

Yes AND YES!
yes, you can spread it from person to person. the blisters that form get really itchy and you need calamine lotion . my husband had it years ago and he got a green coloured lotion but if you ask the pharmacy or see a doctor you will get better advice. he was also told that your clothing and anything else that touched the poison ivy leaves can spread it if touched be someone.
The condition called "poison ivy" is a allergic skin reaction to the "oil" from the leaves of the plant. Yes it is contagious when another person comes in contact with the fluid inside the tiny blisters of the rash on your skin.Scratching the rash will contaminate your finger nails, thus its able to spread to other areas & people. To treat the rash & itching you can buy OTC 0.1% Hydrocortisone cream, and Calamine lotion and follow directions on the labels. If the symptoms spreads to your eyes, you will have to be treated by your MD,that requires prescription meds.Wash your hands frequently.Stay out of the sun while the rash is present,it will resolve itself in about a week,to 10 days.Take care.
