Has any body had tonsillitis with same symtems and how long did it last?
Answers:
You may have tonsillitis, and sometimes it can be very severe developing into a condition called quinsy. This sometimes need IV antibiotics and even surgery. If the pain is persisting therefore get your GP to recheck you.
85% of sore throats do however turn out to be viral and are not helped by antibiotics at all. This includes glandular fever (mono), which can produce both severe swelling and copious exudate. This diagnosis can only be confirmed by blood test and this therefore again involves you going back to your GP.
They told me it was tonsilitis when I had it, but it was really mono, so the antibiotics did no good. Did they check for that? If it's not a good doc, they probably won't figure it out if it is mono. Juice, and lots of sleep! Good luck.
After being physically sick for a week, my throat would not let me swallow even water it was so painful. But in my case I think I tore something it was so sore. It took ages to get better but I think antibiotics are the answer in your case and the pain should be well away within seven days. If not back to the doctor with you!! xx
I know exactly what u mean! I've been on tons of medicine trying to cure this stupid thing, but nothing worked. It lasted about 10 months (not to scare you or anything) because you are probably different. Finally, i needed a tonsillectomy. It is usually a last resort. If its too much for u to take, ask about having that done. It works.
My daughter had it so bad and so often she ended up having them removed, best thing she ever did .
I feel for you i get it every year, hate it cant breathe out of my mouth, i have been in for 14 days with it before. eat ice cream and toast aspirins ones you put in water you gargle do the aspirin 3 times a day give it a go.
Tonsilitis can be NASTY! Last year I had it so bad I couldn't swallow my own saliva, let alone water. I got antibiotics on the Thursday, and by Saturday night, after not eating or sleeping for 3 days, texted my mate, who came & took me to hospital. Turned out I had something called a Quincey, which is basically a big ball of pus, caused by the infection, on my throat. The doc lanced it (which was as disgusting as it sounds!) and gave me 1000mg antibiotics, instead of the 250mg ones. I was a lot better next day, but my own GP has said it has permenantly damaged my tonsils, and I may have to get them out.
Sorry if that panics you, the antibiotics usually do the trick, but if it gets really bad, go to hospital.
I have that right now! I also have the flu, so my neck is stiff and swollen, my throat is killing me and I ache all over. I've actually lost half a stone because I haven't had a proper meal for about a week.
I had it two weeks ago and it nearly went but then it came back. I'm now on stronger penicillin and also taking paracetamol. Check with your doctor whats OK for you to take.
So I guess I've had it three weeks now.
If it's any help, I was advised to use Dequacaine throat sweets, they contain anti bacterial stuff and a local anaesthetic, and they are amazing. My throat was red raw and within an hour the pain had eased considerably, I was able to eat almost normal. It wears off after about 3 hours, but it really gives short term relief. It numbs your mouth like a jag at the dentist. I got them in Boots the Chemist.
Hope you feel better!
I had quite a few bouts of tonsillitus and they were really bad. I couldn't swallow, I felt like I was dying, really physically ill and a bad headache. Also had a spaced out feeling and couldn't sleep very well. I think it's probably going to be at least Monday before you start noticing your throat going down. I hope your Doc has given you Penicillin and you should be taking 500 mg twice a day. This will target the infection quicker and kill the bacteria. I'm sorry you are suffering with this but soup and yogurt is good! The last time I had it I lost half a stone which was great. Don't be surprised if you get a milder bout a month or two later but get the antibiotics again if you do.
