For the diabetics?
Question:
I was pretty upset finding something like this out because the nurse asked me if I went to the bathroom a lot or seemed very thristy I told her no, I feel fine and don't notice any differences. I'm assuming thats why they call it the "silent killer" because some people don't get symptoms.

Medical Mutual is my insurance and I have type 1 diabetes, it's so expensive, and I have to pay for insulin out of pocket and then get reimbursed 80%, the problem is it still costs hundred of dollars, but the doctor visits are only $15.00. There are many other plans on Medical Mutual though depending on what you can pay, and they have a wonderful plan with 24 hour access to nurses, dieticians, and supplies that are all deliverd to your house, this is called "Diabetes Advantage".
I had diabetes in the "honeymoon" period where I still made insulin the first year and my symptoms were less, then the next year I drank 10 gallons of water a day or more, I went to the bathroom approximately 50 times a day and I was very, very week, it came fast and hard, see I didn't know I had it 'till it got real bad and I ended up in the hospital, heed the advice, see a doctor, an endocrinologist, not a Primary Care Phycisian. Men have less symptoms than women usually, but it can still be just as bad, it blurs vision, makes your immunity low, there about 30 side affects, that take you down with diabetes, change your diet, take the pill or insulin, don't wait, control diabetes, don't let it cotrol you. also, depression is common in diabetics, one more thing, any exercise at all, even walking reduces blood sugar levels drastically, exercise is SO IMPORTANT. Here are 2 good websites, most choice.com gives quotes. Keep you spirits up, it's a hard journey but it does get better, and in the long run diabetics eat so healthy wetre some of the healthiest people.
Diabetes does effect the Immune system and diabetics will require more doctor care. After many years the diabetics will start to have complications, even small ones. I get my insurance through my employer and that helps because there is just a copay with all prescriptions and doctor visits
If you can't get health insurance through a group plan through your employer or are eligible for Medicaid through your state, you are pretty much screwed. Most companies will not self insure diabetics and if they do the premiums are outrageous. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
you could try open enrollment for the major medical plans for individual plans...call and ask when open enrollment is (I think it is often around dec or Jan? but ask..
Or get a job with good health insurance...
Not just diabetics...people with any health history (cancer, epilepsy, heart disease, etc). Employers only want to hire young people as they are less likely to have health problems (so that is in your favor at least...). Sometimes they fire people when they have to go in the hospital for surgery too. At least we have FMLA leave act now to protect our jobs with.

Sorry this isn't answering the insurance part. But as far as the sympthoms, well, I had most of them and didn't even realize it until I started watching what I ate. Over all felt better. Then if I ate bad for a day I would start getting the symptoms again and that's when I realized how it was effecting me.
I have insurance through my work, it's Blue Cross Blue Sheild. They covered my husband. You need to get tested. Don't just let it go it can do alot of horrible things to the body. You can get sick faster and longer. The body does not function the way it should when the blood is full of Sugar. Sugar is a poison in high amounts to the organs in your body. So yes it will affect your immune system. You have to be-careful of cuts an scraps because they don't heal as fast and if you get an infection it will take forever to get rid of it.
Good Luck!
