This sounds crazy, but it helps. When you rinse your mouth out (with listerine), you can try swishing a little on your lip, and it will help dry it out. Follow up with Aveeno Medicated lip balm, and that will take the red out, and keep down on itching.
I noticed that a lipstick without a lot of moisturizers helps a little to dry it out, while covering it up. I have tried every cream on the market, and this is the only thing that has helped mine. lol

once you get a cold sore, you will always carry the virus in your system. dont pick on it or touch it and then touch your eyes, it can and will spread. what you have is HERPES SIMPLEX, and you can pass it or get it from someone else with the same virus. abreva is a cream sold at the pharmacy, little tube costs about $16. make sure you wash your hands frequently to keep the virus from spreading.
