Exercise, especially cardio, makes your blood pressure lower. Stress, however, makes it go up. Try some relaxation techniques to deal with your anxiety about the move.
It depends on how old you are, how and what you have ate until 2 weeks ago, how stressed you were and a few other factors. Stress is a cause of high blood pressure though if you calm down and don't get any more bad news you blood pressure should drop.
Exercise will help relieve stress and subsequently your blood pressure. Stress will definitively raise your blood pressure. Keep this move in prospective. One day you will graduate school and very probably never see your friends again; conversely, your health will be with you until you die.
A number of different things can cause an elivation of blood pressure, from stress, to medications, to medical problems. Now if your mother has a history of high blood pressure then you are predisposed. (There are some factors like heredity that you cannot change)
It sounds like you are doing the right things to help prevent high blood pressure but you also need to be on a low fat low sodium diet. it usually takes several High readings or one or two excessively high readings to diagnose high blood pressure.
You may not be able to prevent it but you have definately taken appropriate steps to lessen its impact if you are truely hypertensive.
No way, exercise does not make blood pressure go up. You were probabbly very nervous, or stressed out, it is very common to get inaccurate blood pressure the first time, you should always do it atleast twice, or three times just to make sure. However when you take your blood pressure test you have to be calm, don't be nervous, don't be streesed out, and try no to eat or drink anything hours before taking the test, only water, you should be fine, keep exercising and eating healthy, you will be fine.
