Does it mean anything? Yes. You need to:
#1 - start washing your hands more often.
#2 - start carrying a hand sanitizer to use when you can't wash.
Pinkeye is transmitted through contact. It can be directly or indirectly. Directly being the infected person touch you or vice verse. Indirectly means you touch something that the infected person has touched, i.e. a door knob or elevator button. Unfortunately if is VERY EASY to catch and, as I'm sure you can atest to, miserable to deal with.
The phrase "Cleanliness is next to godliness" has some basis in fact. Your hand literally touch every where with you even realizing it. Nose itch, ear twitch, have to scratch. something in your eye. Keep your hand clean.
