Does anyone know of a sugar free ice cream?

Question:
My father was recently diagnosed with diabetes and he loves ice cream he's adapted his diet well but i know he would love sugar free ice cream and hasnt yet found one any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Answers:
I eat Skinny Cow ice cream. As an earlier poster suggested, he needs to be concerned with the fat as well. Having diabetes does not mean you can't have sugar. It means your total carbohydrate and sugar intake have to be managed appropriately. Get the book "The Diabetes Improvement Program" as mentioned on the webpage below. It's only $10.00 and could, at best, be a life saver. At worst, educate you on how to manage diabetes.

No
Edy's makes great ice cream and there are usually several sugar-free flavors. I tried one when we found my husband was borderline diabetic. It's not bad.
Blue Bunny makes pretty decent sugar free ice creams...they have a good variety too!
Also Breyer's makes Double Churned No Sugar Added in a few flavors.
Good Luck!
Edy's makes sugar-free vanilla and Hershey's has sugar-free moose tracks. Mmmhm. And Blue Bunny has a couple of different flavors.
Edy's has some...watch out though..just cause its sugar free doesnt mean theres no carbs...ya gotta watch the carbs cause thats what makes the blood sugar rise.
Bluebunny and Kroger both make very good sugar free ice cream, with a pretty big selection also.
i havent heard of any but i know that Frozen Yogurt (which tastes almost like ice cream) is allowed in their diet.
There are some sugar free ice creams, sad thing is there are MORE carbs in sugar free than in regular ice cream!!! go figure.....
I would think the amount of fat in ice cream would be as bad as the sugar, after having made it at home. Skim milk won't do it, but half and half and cream make it more creamy, sugar or not.
There is no reason your Dad cannot have regular ice cream.Makes me wonder about the quality of his health care team.
The most important thing to do is count carbs.
As it has been mentioned , sugar free ice cream often has more carbs that regular.
Watch out for fat free also. Yes, they remove the fat and fill it with sugar or Corn syrup.A little fat helps slow the digestion of the sugar anyway.
Read the labels. Measure out one or two servings and enjoy.Just substitute the carbs in the ice cream for other carbs .
Example :Dinner -Fish, veggies, bakes potato and rolls and butter.
Eat half a potato and no roll and enjoy 2 servings of ice cream.

Good luck.
Lots of brands on the market have sugar free and no sugar added. Just have to be diligent and look. WalMart Super Center carries Blue Bunny, Breyers and several others. Keep looking, you will find it.
