How many hours should i fast before taking the hb1ac test?

Question:

Answers:
It is not necessary to fast for HbA1c test longer thanas this measures you average blood sugar over the previous 3 months.

It may be necessary to fast if you are having fasting lipids or blood sugar. Ideally 12 hours. You can still drink waterin this time. But no tea, coffee, milk etc.
Fasting not required. The test does not detect blood glucose.
you should start fasting after midnight the night before testing. and not have anything to eat or drink until after testing. I have to have the same test in a couple of months.
Good Luck!
Fasting is not required nor is it necessary for this test. Since it is a 3 month average of blood sugar, your sugar at the time of the test will not alter the results.

EMT
If your doctor require you to fast before your test, you shouldn't eat anything after 12midnight. After your test you'll be able to eat. They just want to check and see how your blood sugar does over night so in the morning when they check it they'll have a better idea how your sugar runs. They might have adjust your evening dose or not.
12 and only use a small amt of water to brush teeth and take meds next am
stop eating by 10pm, and dont eat till after the test...
