Does Differin really make ur skin peel this much??
Question:
I went to my dermatologist about 6 days ago and told him that I have mild acne and that I have been starting to break out alittle more than I use to since the begining of May so he perscribed both Differin, to use before bed time, and Clindamycin Phosphate lotion in the morning.
The Differin started working like magic after the first day but I noticed a slight dryness and itching sensation between my eyebrows and along the bottom rims of my nose and thought it would go away after applying the lotion but as the days progressed it got even worse and now it is begining to peel really bad and some bumbs are starting to form and even the texture of the skin itself is starting to feel different.any advice??

I have been using Differin gel 0.1% for the past 8 years for my acne. I started using it when I was 13 and now I am 21. I had severe acne on my face, arms, and back. I have VERY sensitive skin, so a lot of the products I tried didn't work, including Pro-Active. This gel was the only thing that worked for me. As I said, I do have very sensitive skin and the same thing happened to me as it is to you. Mine would get so bad that it burned and peeled and itched at the same time. I found a solution to it though. Try using it every other day. On the nights that you aren't using it, buy a facial moisturizer cream. I use Dove deep moisture facial cream with an SPF of 15. I put that on at night in place of the Differin. It helps to keep my skin from burning and peeling. If every other day isn't working, try the Differin every 3 days. Nothing will work like magic and make the acne go away, but after consistant use over several months, it will take care of the problem. I know the literature for Differin says it takes a month to work and that acne can get worse before it gets better (which I found to be true when starting the gel). You definitely need to stop using it every day or you will destroy your skin. Don't quit using it but try every other day with a moisturizer cream. It worked for me and I got great results from Differin when everything else failed. Please be patient. This is from the Differin gel website:
ADVERSE REACTIONS: Some adverse effects such as erythema, scaling, dryness, pruritus, and burning will occur in 10-40% of patients. Pruritus or burning immediately after application also occurs in approximately 20% of patients. The following additional adverse experiences were reported in approximately 1% or less of patients: skin irritation, burning/stinging, erythema, sunburn, and acne flares. These are most commonly seen during the first month of therapy and decrease in frequency and severity thereafter. All adverse effects with use of DIFFERIN® Gel during clinical trials were reversible upon discontinuation of therapy.
I used to use differen. Not only did it severely peel my skin, but it made me depressed, and during the time of use, I constantly had severe panic/anxiety attacks. I have since those incedents switched to other medicines, and nothing seems to be working for me. I'm glad that you have found something that works for you, but I have yet (after 5 years) to find something that works for me.
"Like magic". Just like every other new treatment they hoark out of the labs...
Believe me, there's nothing new out there. Everything they give you is just some type of acid that WILL dry out your skin, causing your skin to overcompensate and make more oil, which in the end will just cause more acne. There's no real answer, other than finding what hormonal causes there are as to why you have overactive oil glands in the first place. Best of luck to you...
