Are HIV positive persons (tested or not) allowed to travel abroad or outside their country?

Question:
does the Japanese government & Japanese airline companies have a policy about this?
my friend has a Japanese boyfriend and she is wondering if her boyfriend has HIV.
She doesn't want to ask him for a test because it will be very offending to ask him to do so.
Please give us some advice regarding this.
thank you very much...

Answers:
Most countries do not have restrictions about HIV positive people traveling outside of their country.

However, some countries have restrictions for HIV positive people entering their country.

For example, the United States has a general ban on HIV positive people visiting the country except in certain situations (such as a family visit or a business trip).

More information about each country's policies can be found at the source I am listing.
offensive to ask him! are u kidding! its her life we are talking about!
how /is/ the airline/ going/ to know /unless/ the person /says/ I AM HIV+/think/ about it
The fact that the fellow travels is in no way connected to his having HIV or not having it. so, you cannot decide he must not have it, because he traveled to the U.S.. The fact that he is from Japan, makes no difference in it being very appropriate to speak to him about HIV. Remember, once you get it, you NEVER get rid of it. That's saying a lot. It is not offensive to request an HIV test for anyone you are having sex with. Remember, if you don't know a person well enough to ask this question, about being tested..then, you don't know them well enough to be having sex with them. Your friend should be reminded of this.
I agree with the above answers - if she's having sex with him she should feel open enough to ask. I asked the guy I'm dating by bringing up the last time I was tested, and he understood right away what I was asking. Yeah, you don't want to be offensive, but there's a difference between asking someone for reassurance and accusing them of being infected. Just tell her to use the right tone.

I will tell you from experience that anyone traveling to the U.S. on a student visa or any other permanent-type visa is required to have a medical exam, which includes an HIV test. But temporary visas do not carry this requirement. The only way to be sure is to talk to him.

Good luck!
