NYC Steam Explosion - Asbestos in dust but not in the air?

Question:
Do they think people are really that stupid? This steam pipe explosion shoots debris from the pipe, which was covered in asbestos, for an hour, and they say that there is no asbestos in the air - that it all is only in the dust? Isn't the risk from asbestos from breathing it is and coating your lungs? If so, then isn't aasbestos easily capable of being airborne? Yet, miraculously, and against the laws of physics, this particular NYC asbestos is not airborne?

Does anyone believe this NYC propaganda? Would you visit NYC right now?

Answers:
There are a couple of factors to consider. Because of the rain and the steam from the explosion, the asbestos fibers settled more quickly, unlike the dry dust that was spread during 9/11.
This is why the asbestos has been found all over the ground @ the site of yesterday's incident.
Of course, those who were on the street immediately following the explosion were exposed to the steam and likely might have suffered some asbestos exposure.
In this case, the rain, steam & humidity have actually proven to be a "life saver" because asbestos fibers absorb the moisture and become too heavy to remain airborne particulates.

I am with you ! I live about 45 minutes out side of the city and do not believe much of what they say. I want to know how they determined it was not terrorism right away but had no idea what did happened and claim to have checked it earlier that day for water from the rain which could cause that to happen.
I don't believe it.
The Chamber of Commerce is too worried about the ol mighty dollar rather than our health. That's easy to believe..just study our health care system too. They don't care one bit.
yea i think the same!! i live in ohio and weve been planning to go there but im not going rigt now!! oh yea, isn't dust in the air?? and yea asbestos is capable of being airborne. THE GOVERNMENT THINKS WERE RETARDS!!
