How to prevent nose bleeding and how to stop it when it happens?

I agree that you need to determine what is causing the nosebleeds. You might find relief from a simple saline solution sprayed into the nose to keep the membranes soft. To stop a nosebleed: take a small amount of tissue or any kind of paper (even a gum wrapper) wad it up and bite down with the back molars just for a few minutes. It stops the blood flow and the nose bleed will stop.
it is gonna sound weird, u should put a key that is metal down course ur back below ur shirt. the bleedin will stop it is proven by scientists, and i tried it and it worked!
i dont know how to stop them.
but to stop blood from getting all over his face buy him some tampons to stick up his nose lol.
insert a small cotton ball into the affected nostril, pinch the skin above the bridge of the nose (in between both eyes), and apply ice to his forehead.
Whn your nephew has an episode of epistaxis, try to place something cool (not cold, just something cooler than tap water), and let the blood trickle out. This lets the small injured capillaries in the nose to become blocked by clotting of the blood. The cold compress constricts the small capillaries and also helps put the bleeding to stop.
Assess what happened to your nephew prior to each epistaxis episode. What was he doing? What other factors were present? (i.e. temperature, type of play activity, etc.). This may help you get a clue as to what triggers your nephew's epistaxis and help you prevent it from occuring or minimize the number of episodes.
Go against the myth of plugging your nose and tilting your head back. I used to get nose bleeds all the time... this is how I got rid of them. Get a cool wet wash cloth and pinch at the bottom end of the bridge of your nose. You have to clamp off the vein. Sit down, lean forward, keep head tilted forward and hold for 3-4 minutes. If it's still bleeding repeat but for 5 min.
The myth: Don't tilt head back! Think of it this way, when it's bleeding and you tilt your head back the blood is just going to continue to drain (and end up in your tummy causing an upset stomach on top of it all...). When you tilt your head forward it allows the blood to form a pool and create a clot a lot sooner than if you let it drain down your throat.
Good luck!!
rhinotillexomania or proboscis probing
Rhinotillexomania:
Rhino = nose
tillexis = habit of picking
mania = obsession with doing something
Most doctors recommend against nose-picking.
A minority of doctors attest that nose-picking, while combined with booger-eating, benefits the immune system.
Psychotherapy can offer different ways to help patients with this kind of problem:
1. Coping
Psycho-education about the causes and prevalence of the problem and ways to cope in everyday life might be helpful for most patients.
2. Relaxation
There are different ways to reduce stress and tension. Usually habitual problems are more severe if people are stressed. Learn muscle relaxation or any other kind of relaxation therapy.
3. Habit reversal
This is a special technique used to block unwanted habits. You learn to be specially aware of the habit and block it with another habit (like crossing your fingers or pressing the finger on your leg) which is incongruent with the unwanted habit.
Ok this is from experience and is NOT a joke..
My ex husband got a terrible nose bleed one day when we were still married.. He was freakin out about it so I took him to the ER..
WELL the Doctor told him to STOP picking his nose so much.. lmao
Man I was ticked after 4 hours in ER to hear he picked his nose to much lol
They told him NEVER tilt the head back.. because the blood can go down the throat and aspirate you..just just tissue or cotton balls..
Watch the kid and see if he's a nose picker lol.. if not there may be a serious problem going on and he needs to go to his primary care doctor and have it checked
