Looking for a DR specializing in treating cellutis in the Pittsburg PA area?

Question:
I have a friend who is being treated by his family dr for this condition for the past year and the condition is getting worse, his dr tells him he doesn't know what kind of a specialist to send him to. His legs are swollen and red to the knee, sometimes turning a purplish color. If anyone can steer him to the right type of specialist I would be awfully greatful.

Answers:
GREETINGS, first off, does he have any other medical conditions such as diabetes? lymphedema? veinous insufficiency? or been tested for these? How did he get the cellulitis? Cellulitis is a staph or strep infection in the skin and soft tissues, did he have a scratch?

You can't have cellulitis that long without major side effects and permanent problems, the infection will damage the skin and lymph nodes so I am thinking he probably will be stuck with the swollen legs and a diagnosis of lymphedema or vein problems. And it's possible he had lymphedema or venous problems to start with and the cellulitis was the result of stagnant fluids in the legs.

I would suggest one of these doctors as they are most knowledgeable:

At this point, I'd seek an infectious disease consult, or just have him check into the emergency room, where they'll take tissue samples or wound cultures and then probably get the infectious disease consult.

If his doc doesn't know where to send him in PITTSBURGH, get a new doc. Just some friendly advice.

EDIT: The Pittsburgh in caps was for the emphasis on such a large area, not the spelling :)
