Are potatoes good for Diabetics?

Question:
I have been told that because I am diabetic I should not eat potatoes of any kind. I thought potatoes had good nutrients for me.

Answers:
Potatoes ARE good for you... in moderation. I can think of a lot of things that are far worse... like refined products, beer, cake, and frosted doughnuts, for example. Just watch your total carb and sugar calories.

Yes, potatoes are high in carbs, but they're not BAD for you. The key is to keep your glucose in check with diet, daily exercise, weight management, and a few supplements. Read more here: http://www.geocities.com/seabulls69/type...
Potatoes are very high in carbohydrates, which can increase your blood sugar also. You really should avoid them.
You need to read up on diabetes, its cause and the importance of maintaining your insulin at a safe level. Potatoes are very high in carbohydrates, and carbohydrates break down into sugars almost immediately upon eating them, causing a drastic spike in your blood sugar levels.
potatoes, and most breads tend to break down fairly fast and raise your suger level considerably fast, I suggest you have a couple of small pieces of chedder cheese, to accompany your meal it helps slow the rise of sugar in your system.
Hi

Potato contain so much of carbohydrates.Where it'll increase your blood sugar. This blood sugar will be stored as glucose after metabolism .When you work glucose from your liver will be used for energy. If not it 'll be deposited as fat. Try to have food which is low in glycemic index. To have more info on glycemic index just click on the source.
There are two types of carbohydrates the good ones like whole grains and certain vegetables that slowly raise your blood sugar level and the bad ones like sugar, white flour, white rice, patatoes, peas and corn, these bad carbs instantly raise your blood sugar, whihc is not good for diabetes. A good sustitute could be sweet patatoes, in moderation.
One good food for diabetic is bitter melon. It's a natural hypoglycemic.
Sweet potatoes are better

white potatoes are high in complex carbohydrates which, when in the body break down into sugars...which obviously elevate your blood glucose levels. Same thing with Pasta.

You should eat lots of lean proteins, green veggies (not white potatoes) and legumes (beans)...whole wheat toast etc etc..
Try to avoid any root veggies. Carrots won't kill you, but they have more sugar than celery or broccoli. Avoid grains and that includes corn. Too much can raise you sugar. The best fruits are berries and melons-- low in sugar. Just avoid sugar and if you do eat it then choose whole unprocessed forms. Limit your sugar intake (carbs).
Watch out! 1 average size baked potato produces
a FULL 1/4 CUP of Sugar in your body when digested.
That's a HUGE amount for diabetics.

Yes, they are a carbo. We all NEED carbos.
Count your carbos when ever you eat and adjust medication, portion size and exercise to accommodate your meal.

Please educate yourself and don't believe people who do not have a clue.
Diabetes ed classes, magazines, books written in the past 5 years and see a dietitian.
from what I've heard doctors say about potatoes being good from diadetics. Its very bad for you.
ye Potatoes r good for health but seem it is not the time & season to consume more. send an email to my id ..
Regular baking potatoes should be eaten in moderation; yams or sweet potatoes are better for you. Eat whole grains, and watch your carb intake. There are 'sugar spikers', foods that will cause your blood sugar to hike quickly. Fiber-rich foods will cause a less dramatic hike in blood sugar. Check with a nutritionist if you have doubts.
Potatoes have a lot of carbs. So, if you want to eat potatoes, you will need to cut down or cut out the other carbs in your allocation for that particular meal. Don't forget the serving size is about the palm of your hand. Good luck.

Diabetics don't really have to "cut out" lots of foods, we just have to pick and choose and allocate. :)
they contain carbohydrates that increase blood sugar, therefore doctors recommend restraint in rice, potatoes
