Is cracking your knuckles bad for you?

Question:
I crack my knuckles a lot. Will i get arthritus? Is it bad for you, if so how do I stop?

Answers:
My son's drum teacher warned him not to crack his knuckles because he said it caused pain when the person gets older.

I remember a book where someone put a rubberband on his wrist and snapped it hard against the inside of his wrist whenever he swore. Maybe that would help you quit cracking your knuckles. It didn't actually "cure" the character--he just got a really red, sore wrist--but I could see that it could help.
