How the dose of insulin is calculated in Duabetics??

Question:
i am new ly passed doctor

Answers:
The starting dose for a Type 1 diabetic is 1 unit/kg body weight/day. This is split evenly between a background insulin such as Lantus and a short acting insulin given with food such as Humalog.
Adjustments are made from there depending on blood sugar testing results.
Uhh, what?
one unit of insulin per x amount of carbohydrates. like mine is 1:8. if i eat a bag of m&ms with a 34 carb count, i need to take 6 units of insulin.
