What types of food won't raise my blood sugar?

I have borderline diabetes. I am trying to lose weight to reverse it and I need to know some good things to eat that won't raise my blood sugar. I have quit eating sugar entirely. I have been buying sugar-free everything. It just seems like there is nothing left to eat, everything makes me feel kinda sick. Are sugar-free snacks good to eat for diabetics?

Answers:
Foods that won't raise your sugar are foods with out carbohydrates such as pure protein and fats.
Any meat, fish or chicken is good- just watch what yo put on it.
Cheese is all fat and should not raise your sugars.
Don't forget to count those carbs.

Check into getting a book on the glycemic index.It tells you which are high and which are low.There are lots of foods that you can eat if you use this principle.

Staying away from sugar entirely is not the only thing you can do. And let's be real...a little sugar here and there is ok as long as you take it in moderation.
The main thing is going to be carbs and starches. Breads, potatoes,corn (a starch), will be your worst enemy. Read lables!

There are many things you can eat that wont spike your blood sugar - check your pharmacy for sugar-free snacks: they have sugar free cookies, candies, bars, etc. The best kind of snacks however are nutrition-filled vegetables. Stay away from anything white - bread, rice, pasta, potatoes!! These will definitely raise your blood sugar. If you stay away from these, it will also help with your weight loss. Ultimately you should ask your doctor as he/she will give you the best advice as to what you can eat.
