Question on minocycline?
Question:
Answers:
If you are allergic to minocycline, you would know if you are allergic or not, to the medication (I mean, with the first 2-3 tablets of minocyclin clorhidrate 100 mg)
The toxicity seen, is rare, however, its possible in about 1 in 10,000 patients, and the most frequent side effect, is nausea, heavy dizziness and vomiting.
It is extremely rare to see an pseudotumor cerebri, as a side effect, together, with lupus-like syndrome...(1:6,500 patientes)
Most commonly, the inner ear nerve, can be affected (its very rare) causing some vertigo, involuntary movements of the eyes (nystagmus) that dissapear 36 to 48 hours after stopping the medication.
However, if you know that you may suffer some kidney conditions, let your doctor know...
Kidney is the way of elimination for minocyclin..
It is safely used in the vast majority of cases in small doses (100 miligrams per day) and for 6 months or more, avoiding exposure to heavy sunlight or tanning spas, because minocycline is a derivative ot tetracyclins, and if you expose to heavy sunlight, like in sunbathing, chances are that you can suffer some rash, called "photosensitivity", or "sentitization to light" because this medication can produce it sometimes, scaring some patients without need..
The companies that manufacture such products as minocycline, have to protect themselves, from any further claims, so that, they add a pamphlet to the tablets warning of POSSIBLE not sure side effects. and that really scares people away from taking it, with no need for such alarm...
I think they scared you a bit too much.
I hope your skin conditions will be cured in a very short time.
Sorry I have not used this medication but I did look for some info and found this: http://www.aocd.org/skin/dermatologic_di...
I hope this helps you because I have had to take medications and the side effects were worse than whatever was wrong with me. Take care and I wish you the best of luck.
