Does anyone know why I would suddenly start having allergic reactions to 1 of my dogs and not the other?

Question:
Our hound dog mix is still pretty young, and he was a rescue who was repeatedly returned, so he's not all that well-behaved so he still mouths at you to try to get you to play. But everytime he mouths my hands or arms, I've recently started breaking out in hives on that spot. Our other dog loves giving kisses, so he licks me all the time and I have never reacted at all to his saliva. And I never have a problem if I'm petting either of them - or while they're sleeping in the same bed as we do. Any ideas?

Answers:
maybe the dog that u r allergic to hs been eating or chewing something else that u could be allergic to.
Every animal has a different body chemistry so it is not uncommon to have allergies to one and not another.

the fact that your hound dog is young might have something to do with it (I am VERY allergic to KITTEN fur but only mildly allergic to CAT fur). If this is the case, you AND your dog will outgrow the problems. In the meanwhile, try changing his diet since the problem seems to be in the saliva.

Keep a container of "baby wipes" nearby and wipe yourself down after the dog gets his saliva on you - that should help cut down the adverse reaction.
Your hound dog saliva is totally different from your other dog. Something in your Hound's saliva is making break out. Maybe its the food, or other things your hound is around.
